The issue with the Catholic Church and it’s negative PR…

July 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

is not Catholic-bashing on behalf of our (undoubtebly Leftist), as some (such as Andrew Bolt) have suggested, but the very simple fact that Catholic authorities have used their power to cover up crimes. And some very, very horrible crimes at that. The simple fact that Cardinal Pell attempted to cover up a sexual abuse scandal because he thought it would be damaging to the Church should mean that he’s out of a job and been decried in all segments of the media. Regardless of circumstance, he should have realised that the potential that an innocent victim would be ignored by the Church outweighs the image the Catholic Church presents. And Bolt’s attempt to paint the more-than-justified outraged at Pell’s morally bankrupt behaviour is despicable.

What?!

Ugh.

Possibly the smuggest, stupidest piece of self-satisfaction I have ever seen. This stupid idea that being conservative or liberal dictates your entire personality has got to stop.

For God’s sake

This is barely a story of national significance, let alone international significance. Why do I get the feeling it’s being used as a “those crazy Aussies!” story? And is Rudd’s health really as important as, say, his policies? I can’t find any mention on BBC NEWS of his proposal for an (admittedly vaugely conceived) “Asia-Pacific Union”. You’d think that’d be a bigger story.

Here’s an idea

What with the rise in petrol and all, why doesn’t the Government, rather than giving petrol a tax cut, do the same thing to renewable energy sources and things like electric cars?

Rudd rubbishers just as bad as Howard haters

May 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

If we’re going to use Andrew Bolt as an example, at least.

For instance, take this recent post.

So, he hasn’t actually lied about anything. BUT HE MIGHT.

It was sadder when Bolt started calling him “Chairman Rudd”. Then the Chairman stood up to human rights abuses in China- suddenly he didn’t go far enough (despite going much further than Howard ever dared to, and all whilst speaking in Mandarin).

Really, the Rudd Rubbishers (or should I say KRUDD RUBBISHERS) are just as bad as the HoWARd haters. Actually, they’re not. They’re worse.

To be honest, I think that so-called “culture warriors” in general are irritating and tend to act like idiots when “their side” is out of power, on both the left and right.

Murdoch for PM!

April 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So, this is hardly recent news, but the new Prime Minister of Italy (well, sort of- he was PM beforehand, as well) is Silvio Berlusconi. AKA the principal media baron of Italy. Brilliant.

No-one has anything wrong with the Prime Minister also controlling most of the media? It’s a bit like having Rupert Murdoch as our PM.

Which I’m sure he wouldn’t want- he’d actually have to hold himself to a small level of accountability (although, considering Howard’s actions…), rather than attempting to manipulate candidates through the media (ever notice how the rise of neo-conservativism in Australia came about after Murdoch started carving an empire out of the global media?).

Imagine if he became Opposition Leader but lost. I think Andrew Bolt would finally completely snap.

Why is it…

April 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

That so many News Ltd propagandaist pseudo-journalists are oblivious to the absurdity of their arguments? For instance, the whole idiotic “elitist” accusation. The people who want to challenge the status quo are the “elitists”? The people who oppose the groups with all the wealth and power in the country? Riiiiight.

And since when is there a big homogenous blob which calls itslef the “Left”? Anyone who believes that the “Left” is so unified is obviously not a part of it. The truth is that it is divided up into factions, and those divided into smaller factions.

The fact is that there are jerks and good guys on both sides of politics. Anyone who says otherwise is about to campaign or a journalist.
